Abstract

This project is designed to control the electrical load for multiple number of times as per the requirement usinga microcontroller.

The conventional system of operating electrical loads manually requires human involvement wherein a person needs to go there and press the switch to turn the loads on or off correspondingly.. 

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified power supply..  A matrix keypad is used for storing the information. The loads are controlled by a relay-driver IC,which is connected to the microcontroller. A LCD display is interfaced to the microcontroller for displaying the time. 

This system allows a user to enter the prescribed timings at which theuserwants to switchthe load as per the requirement through the keypad. Such type of data is stored in the microcontroller. The microcontroller continuously reads the time from the RTC. Whenever the time is matched to the stored time, then the microcontroller gives  commands to corresponding relay to turn on or off the load as per the program and also displays the time on the LCD display. Multiple on or off time entry is the biggest advantage in this project. 

The project in future can be enhanced by interfacing a GSM modem to the existing project so that the complete control of the load can be achieved by sending an SMS to the control unit.
